Alternate Care

On the beachThe Alternate Care Program offers home-based respite care to families parenting a child/youth under the age of 18 diagnosed with a developmental delay. The intent is to support and strengthen families by providing them with scheduled time away from their daily responsibilities of caring for a child with a disability. For the child, ACP provides an opportunity for developing positive, rewarding and nurturing relationships with the respite family. Many children with developmental delays have not had the opportunity to experience a “sleep over”. This is an invaluable experience for the child and great respite for the child’s family. The potential for developing long-term family relationships is great.
