Gift a Child 2020

Brantford Brant Support for our Community’s Children during the Holiday Season

Media Release – November 5, 2020 (Brantford, ON) – (Brant FACS).

The holiday season is traditionally a time for positive reflection, gratitude, and giving. This will be hard for many families in our community as needs have significantly increased with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Any holiday season can be stressful in any given year. This year, the pandemic has seen many of our families facing significant financial, mental, emotional and physical health issues, while employment is impacted and services continue to be reduced. Each act of kindness can help ease the burdens carried and bring simple joy to children and youth who otherwise may feel even more isolated and left out.

For many years, local businesses, community groups, families and individuals have partnered with Brant Family and Children’s Services (Brant FACS) to ensure that all of our community’s children receive a gift during the Holiday Season. Many have generously organized toy drives, contributed funds from special staff-driven projects, and donated gifts rather than exchanging gifts with each other. Hundreds of hours have gone into quilting, knitting, and hand-crafting wooden toys – such labours of love. We are truly grateful, however, this year we do not have the ability to receive, store or process actual toy or hand made gift donations in a safe manner.

With the COVID-19 pandemic, Brant FACS is asking that all donations be made in the form of on-line donations via our charity page on CanadaHelps. This will help reduce the risk of virus transmission and ensure that we are able to keep our children, families, and staff safe, as well as our broader community. Your on-line donation will help us ensure that each one of the children and youth we serve will have something to celebrate this holiday: e.g. a mom with a new born baby who is struggling to get formula and diapers, an older teen who is living on their own and feeling even more isolated and alone in ‘pandemic limbo’, a dad who hasn’t been able to work and can’t afford a turkey dinner or gifts for his children.

All financial donations will be used to directly support families, provide toys or gift cards based on individual age and interests, and/or provide basic staples to help make this holiday season a bit brighter.

Online donations to the Brant FACS Gift a Child campaign can be made through the CanadaHelps website. Click on the following link: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/the-childrens-aid-society-of-brant/
